Community Action
The Quigley and Watts team is committed to being involved in community action.
It is important to us to be involved in local, national and global issues.
Here are two examples of community action work our team has undertaken.
Submission Research and Writing
| Who for | Obesity Action Coalition |
| Why | To prepare a submission on the Consultation Paper for a Front of Pack Labelling Policy Guideline. |
| What | Quigley and Watts carried out research on the issues surrounding front of pack labelling for food packages and used the research findings to prepare a submission commenting on the policy guideline. |
| Outcomes | The Obesity Action Coalition was able to provide its members with advice on the issues relating to the proposed Front of Pack Labelling policy guideline and provide a model submission for members to use as a basis for their own submissions. |
Frocks on Bikes cycle events for women
| Who for | Living Streets Aotearoa, Cycle Advocates' Network and New Zealand Transport Agency (initial seeding grant) |
| Why | To encourage cycling in the city - in everyday clothes or dressed up glamorously - to show there is a groundswell of people wanting to ride bikes and that biking is fun, stylish, sustainable and liberating! |
| What | Quigley and Watts Ltd secured start-up funding to help initiate a series of 'Frocks on Bikes' cycle events in
2008-2009 in partnership with Intersect and others from transport, environmental and creative sectors
The Frocks movement then took off with further exciting events emerging - an evening ride to kick off the Cuba St Carnival
and a waterfront ride in Wellington to support the 350 Climate Change Action festival are just two examples.
The style of Frocks on Bikes riding is unhurried and enjoyable, with a focus on socialising and home baking wherever possible!
Frocks on Bikes is continuing under the umbrella of Intersect, a network of young professionals passionate about sustainability. |
| Outcomes | More women cycling for short trips around town, increased visibility of cycling and the spread of Frocks on Bikes events to other cities
from Auckland to London. Visit the website at http://frocksonbikes.org/
or the Frocks on Bikes Facebook page for more info on future events. |
